2015 is in the books, and although I thought 2014 was my most traveled year, it looks like this year almost matched it. Of course as a photographer, this means plenty of shooting opportunities, but as an artist it meant that I was still able to get out and meet fans and promote that side of my work as well. Here I will present my highlights in photos...which I guess could also be seen as a collection of micro-blogs that I never got time to post (click each photo to enlarge):
This year Dark Horse Comics relaunched the Barb Wire comic book that I was fortunate to work on with Chris Warner, Patrick Olliffe, Mike Heisler, Gabe Eltaeb, Freddye Miller, and Randy Stradley.
For most of February I was in Vietnam reconnecting with old friends and family while making new ones.
ConNooga 2015 was a great time as I made my first appearance in Chattanooga, Tennessee back in February. On the right is Ruby Falls as I was doing the touristy thing.
This year I was invited twice to the Tennessee Friends of NRA dinner banquet (thanks to Michael Webb and Jim Bruce) to contribute an exclusive Superman illustration that was printed in limited numbers to be auctioned off to raise money. The prints were a huge success this year, raising around $15,000. See a larger version here.
In summer 2015 I did my second Adobe photography event in Minneapolis (third overall workshop) thanks to my friend Peter Chang. I got to show my techniques and talk a bit about my philosophies and art to attendees.
Once again, Fanboy Expo conventions have been great to me as I did all 3 of their shows in 2015 as a guest artist and also as their hired photographer. I'm grateful in being a part of this family and that they haven't disowned me yet! ;) For sure I'll be back again in 2016!
I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Lan Vu of the Vietnamese famous PhoBolsa TV channel, and was interviewed twice by him--once in Saigon, Vietnam, and once in Orange County, CA.
2015 was the first time I attended San Diego Comic Con as an attendee, not a exhibitor! And although this sure as hell doesn't make me any money, I had way more fun than I ever did at SDCC! I also used the trip to catch up with ol' pals, as well as meet new ones :)
And while we're one the topic of conventions, 2015 was another well-traveled year with 12 appearances around the country. Looking forward to more in 2016!
2015 I did quite a bit more television work than in 2014. I was asked back to do artwork for CBS's Big Brother 17, and even did some behind-the-scenes concept/storyboard art for the show. Big thanks to Heath, Jessie, Andrew, and Shukra for the opportunity!
As a spinoff to the above, I had the opportunity to work with several reality TV stars to design their own t-shirts for RealityShowTees.com. This is an ongoing project and I will blog more about it very soon....! ;)
It was another fruitful year for fitness photography as I worked with another batch of wonderful, easy-to-work-with, and understanding/patient clients. I gained a few new tearsheets as a result.
And speaking of beautiful models of 2015...
In September, my dear friends Joey and Jessica got married, and I was honored to be a part of their wedding in Tennessee! :)
In the past year I illustrated a bunch of cards for the Marvel Legendary: Secret Wars volumes 1 and 2 deck building games. Thanks to Jennifer Wu for the opportunity! Check out an earlier blog entry of some behind-the-scenes work here.
My buddy Adam came all the way from Tennessee to hang out with me all Thanksgiving weekend. It kept me away from my family which was perfectly fine because any chance of him meeting my loser/crybaby/retarded brother was simply too embarrassing and shameful.
Finally (as hinted on the opening photo), I spent my Christmas in Florida. I saw my good old friend Scott as he showed me beautiful beaches. I also saw my sister (with her boyfriend), who lives there, and besides catching up we also had a blast talking shit about our disowned brother :D It was a great trip to get out of the cold. I'll have more photography-oriented pictures in another blog entry soon.
Happy New Year...I hope 2016 will be as fun! ;)
