Last week I was invited by my friend/school teacher Jason to come to his school, the Minnesota Math and Science Academy, and speak to the students (aged 9 through 11) about comics and entertain them with some doodling. Armed with my trusty Microsoft Surface Pro 2, I proceeded to hook it up to their "Smart Board" in the classrooms (man, all we had growing up was ugly green chalk boards!) and show off some of my work. I then proceeded to do some quick drawing demos of their favorite requested characters as well as take on whatever silly questions they threw at me.
How Jason and I met-- by him commissioning me to do this "family Christmas card" last year!
Speaking to classrooms is something that I do on occasion, and I think the kids were genuinely excited and fascinated. I've compiled that day's sketches here for you:
If you're a school district employee and would like to book me for a speaking, then please don't hesitate to hit the contact button. :)
