Bodybuilding Photoshoot: Adam

Olympus OMD-EM5.  75mm prime lens at f/2.0. 1/200 second, ISO 200.

A few weeks ago I shot with another client who was about to compete in his first competition as a bodybuilder in the open class.  Like many of my fitness clients, he wanted to capture his hard work around the peak of his conditioning.  In fact, Adam is friends with one of my other bodybuilding clients that I had blogged about: Scott.

So the shoot was on an early Sunday morning at Vault Fitness (thank you!), and my photo-friend Alexis would be on hand to assist me with the lighting.

What's in my crappy bag.  Click to see the whole image, I don't know why it's cropped/squished here.

The previous night, I packed all of my equipment, charged all of my batteries and made sure there was backups of everything like every working professional should have.  This would prove very handy and useful because my Cybersync wireless transmitter (that goes into the hotshoe of my camera to fire my external lighting) wasn't working that morning!  Taking a quick look at it, I figured that its battery had finally croaked.  Of course, you have to keep your cool as the hired photographer.  Being prepared and reaching for my backup Cybersync transmitter, I soon found out that that one didn't work either.  After awkwardly and secretly glaring at Alexis in a mini-freakout, I took the battery out of the backup transmitter (up until now, I had never attempted to use it, so I figured the battery must still be good), and stuck it in first dead transmitter.  It worked, thank goodness.

After almost committing suicide in front of everyone (just kidding), I proceeded to finish setting up and started to snap pictures.

Test shot. Lens: Panasonic-Leica 25mm Summilux at f/2.0.  1/200 second, ISO 200.

Here are a few lighting diagrams for fun:

Lens: Panasonic-Leica Summilux 25mm at f/2.0.  1/200 second at ISO 200.

Same camera settings/light setup as the previous setup.

Lens: Panasonic 12-35mm at f/3.2.  1/200 second, ISO 320.

Olympus 75mm prime lens at f/2.0.  1/200 second at ISO 200.

It was a productive and fun shoot!  2 weekends ago, Adam competed in the Heavyweight class at the North Star bodybuilding competition.  He got 3rd place out of 6 in his class-- a fine showing!  Congrats, Adam!

Back double biceps during pre-judging...yeah buddy!  Taken with Olympus E-PL5 and Panasonic 45-200mm lens.  Being in the nosebleed seats is no fun huhu

Outside the theater by the vendors area.  Me with bodybuilder Jerome Dinh.  Recognize the photo on the banner? ;)

Toodles.

PS: I ordered another Cybersync transmitter to replace my faulty backup GRRRRRR >:(
