This past Spring I was asked to do 12 illustrations for the Marvel Legendary: Villains set for Upper Deck Entertainment. The set was released this summer, so I guess it's ok to show the art and some behind-the-scenes action.
Strangely, finding any proper pictures of my (or even the other contributing artists') cards online was nigh impossible. And I don't even have the proper finished colors. So you'll just have to live with black-and-whites for now. Who knows, some of you may even enjoy those better.
What follows is a gallery of the rough draft and finished inks side-by-side. Other than the obvious differences from start-to-finish, read the captions for more behind-the-scenes facts:
The following is a series showing the extent of modification that I was originally asked to do to the "Engineer" illustration, all done in Photoshop (thank goodness for digital). Hey, it happens:
Tools used:
-Strathmore Smooth bristol board
-HB lead mechanical pencil
-Inking: Pigma Micron pens, Windsor & Newton Series 7 #1 brush, Rapidograph pens, Higgins Black Magic india ink, Rapidograph Universal Black ink, Bic White-Out pen.
-Photoshop CC + Wacom Intuos 3 tablet on a 13" 2010 Macbook Pro (old school!)
